I moved here for comfort. I stayed because they kept laughing at my jokes.

Why I chose to move to Atrium

My wife passed away, and I was living on my own in another retirement home. Before she passed, we had both talked about moving here together since we’d heard such good things about this place. After she was gone, I didn’t want to stay where I was. I knew this home had a better reputation, and I thought I might find more comfort and happiness here. I’m very glad I made the move. It’s been the best decision for me.

People welcomed me just as I am

The transition was easier than I expected. Everyone welcomed me with open arms from the moment I arrived. That was what surprised me most, how kind and accepting people were, especially since I’ve been told I can be a bit of a handful at times. It didn’t matter. Everyone still made me feel like I belonged.

The people make this home

The people, without a doubt. The residents and the staff are wonderful. The staff here are just great. They work hard, they care, and they treat you like family. It makes a world of difference.

I love cards, conversation and company

I’m trying to get a card game going. Poker is my favourite. I enjoy a good game and good company. I also like to talk, and people here seem willing to listen…at least sometimes! I enjoy sharing stories, having a laugh, and being around others.

Advice for someone considering retirement living

I would tell them they’re going to be pleasantly surprised. I know I was. I’ve lived in a few different homes, and this one is by far the friendliest and most welcoming. Life gets easier when you’re surrounded by good people, and you don’t feel alone.

A lifetime of stories to share

Well, I talk too much. At least, that’s what people tell me! I was an OPP officer for 30 years, so I’ve got a lot of stories from my life, though not all of them are nice to share. That’s why I like to make jokes and fool around a bit. It’s better to bring some laughter into the room.

My children are my pride and joy

The most meaningful parts of my life were getting married and having my children. Watching them grow up was the greatest joy I’ve ever had. I also enjoyed my trip to Europe. It was unforgettable, but nothing compares to the memories of raising my kids and being with my family.

My children inspire me, especially my daughter Christine. She takes such good care of me while still managing her own life and responsibilities. I’m proud of all my kids, and they give me a reason to keep going and stay positive.

Friendship found me again

I’ve rediscovered how good it feels to connect with people. I enjoy being around others, talking, laughing, and listening to their stories. I’ve met a lot of good people here, and that means more than anything.

Feeling happier, connected and completely myself

Living here has made a big difference in my life. I feel happier, more relaxed, and more connected to others. I wake up in the morning with something to look forward to, whether it’s breakfast with friends, a game of cards, or just a good chat. I don’t feel lonely anymore. The staff are always willing to help, and I never feel like a burden. I would absolutely recommend this home to others. It’s a place filled with kindness, laughter, and people who care.
